The steel industry depends on producing good quality, reliable steel that will perform as expected in steel building and construction work, for example. Metalwork, whether made from aluminium alloys or noble metal, needs to be subject to constant inspection to ensure that the goals of production are met. Maintaining good steel manufacture standards of quality used to be difficult to achieve with conventional means.
The portable measurement technologies developed by FARO have proven themselves made quality control for the metal industry. Contact-measurement systems like the portable measuring arms like the FaroArm and the FARO Gage or the Laser Tracker for large scale measurements can be employed in steel fabrication and the metal industry. But those are not the only fields of application: computer aided measurement is also a feature of scientific metallurgy. Non-contact measurement systems using laser technology, such as the Laser ScanArm or the Laser Scanner, are capable of high accuracy surface monitoring. FARO´s CAM2 Software offers advanced functionalities for all requirements.
FARO equipment can also be used with third party´s software which can use laser scans to analyze the metal-structure, and employ reverse engineering to gather even more data.
